A driver of a light vehicle has been released on bail by the Assam Police

A driver of a light vehicle belonging to a private construction company has been released on bail by the Assam Police. The driver was detained for four-days in Malikpur police station in Bogaigaon district following a hit and run accident.

He was released on Friday after members of the local chapter of the Bhutan India Friendship Association in Gelephu spoke on his behalf.

According to Assam police, the Bhutanese driver had hit a four-year-old boy who had been severely injured and was in serious condition.

The driver told our reporter that he had not seen the boy cross the road. He said he could not stop to help the boy fearing that the public might beat him to death.

Assam police said the accident occurred due to rash driving and negligence. They said most Bhutanese vehicles plying via Assam tend to over speed.

On Wednesday, a Bhutanese taxi traveling from Phuentsholing to Samdrupjongkhar hit a two wheeler in Assam.

Fortunately the scooter rider suffered only minor injuries and the taxi driver was let go after paying Nu. 10,000 for the damage he has caused to the scooter. Source: BBS
