Lhabab Duechen or the descending day of Lord Buddha is the most auspicious day for the Bhutanese.
It was the day when Lord Buddha returned to earth from the heavenly abode for the salvation of all sentient beings.
Offices and schools across the kingdom yesterday remained closed to observe the Lhabab Dhuechen. On this day, the people across the kingdom visited Lhakhangs and Goendeys to offer butter lamps and prayers.
In the capital Thimphu, thousands of faithful visited the Dechenphu Lhakhang, Tango and Cheri monasteries, the memorial chorten, Tashichoedzong and other Lhakhangs and Goendeys in and around the capital.
In Dechenphu Lhakgang, thousands of people waited in long cues to offer butter lamps to the Gyenngyen. The situation was same at the memorial Chorten and other Lhakhangs in the capital.
Lhabab Duechen is an auspicious occasion for the Buddhists. Special prayers were also conducted in Rabdeys, Lhakhangs, and Goendeys across the kingdom.
According to legend, seven days after Lord Buddha was born, his mother passed away. To save her from vicious cycle of life and death, Lord Buddha left from the celestial realm.
On this day, he returned to earth for the benefit of all sentient beings. Source: BBS
