Rinzin Dorji, the gup of Geling gewog, Chukha, has decided to contest for National Assembly seat from the Phuentsholing constituency.
Rinzin Dorji, a 31-year-old commerce graduate of Sherubtse college, said that the people who had unanimously elected him as the Geling gup in 2005 wanted him to contest for the National Assembly.“I feel I will be closer to my people if I serve in the Assembly, says the young gup. “My greatest strength is the trust of my people in me, he said.
Rinzin had not decided to join any party as yet. “Any party that is for rural development, especially infrastructure development would be my choice, he says narrating the hardship of some of the remotest villages in Chukha dzongkhag. “There is huge potential for commercial agriculture in my constituency, but the lack of infrastructure has been an impediment.
Rinzin Dorji graduated from Kanglung in 2000 but did not join the civil service and still feels that it is not necessary to work in the government to serve the country. Joining politics, he feels is an opportunity to even serve the people and government better.
