Yesterday was observed as the International Anti-Corruption Day. The day is observed to recognize the devastating impact of corruption on the lives of millions of people around the world.
Here in the capital, the Anti Corruption Commission in collaboration with the Bhutan Broadcasting Service organized a live open discussion on the theme, “Vibrant Democracy: Our Responsibility.�
A message from the Prime Minister says the day is a solemn occassion to reaffirm our commitment towards curbing corruption which is intrinsic to good governance and in striving for Gross National Happiness.
In the message, Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji pointed out nepotism, mismanagement of resources, bribery and complacency as some of the major forms of corruption in Bhutan.
He said everyone has a role to play in stopping corruption. He said at a time when parliamentary democracy is being established in the country, it is of utmost importance to curb corruption in our society.
The period between December 9 to December 17, will be observed as the National Corruption Free Week.
A series of programs will be organzied across the country. An open public forum on the theme, “Fighting Corruption: Our Responsibility,� will be oraganized at the Royal Banquet Hall on the December 12. The Anti-Corruption Commision plans to hold an interactive discussion on Good Governance on the December 14 with senior government officials. Source: BBS
