Three companies short-listed out of the nine Indian companies

Three Indian companies submitted their bids to the finance ministry on November 19 and one will soon become the sole marketing agent of the Bhutan paper lottery in India.

Krishna Agency from Chennai, Sanjay Jayantilal & Company from Delhi and Martin Lottery Agency from Coimbatore were the three companies short-listed out of the nine Indian companies that were invited by the foreign ministry to take part in the bidding. One bidder pulled out at the last minute. The bidding, which was scheduled for November 9, was postponed after the finance ministry took time to evaluate the companies invited to take part in the bid. “The finance ministry ran a ‘technical evaluation’ of the bidders to check on their credibility and capacity to be the marketing agent and this evaluation took time, said an official from the finance ministry.

Jayea Muruyam, a representative of the Krishna Agency, said that he was happy that his company was short-listed. “I would like to be an agent because Bhutan paper lottery is popular in India, especially in the three states of West Bengal, Karnataka and Maharashtra, he said.

He also said that he had the experience of working with Sanjay Jayantilal & Company, the previous Bhutan lottery agent for about 15 years.

Sanjay Jayantilal & Company had been the agent for the Bhutan paper lottery, one of the biggest revenue contributors to the government, for the past 25 years.

Finance ministry officials said that they were still evaluating the bids and would comment on a later date.
