The nation observed the 53rd birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo yesterday. Activities and celebrations were organized in different schools and instiutions across the country to mark the day.
His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck was born on November 11, 1955 at the Dechencholing Palace. During His Majesty’s reign, Bhutan witnessed unprecedented development and growth with the country enjoying peace, prosperity and stability. His Majesty the 4th Druk Gyalpo far reaching political reforms which culminated in the introduction of parliamentary democracy.
November 11 is also observed as the Children’s Day in the country. In the capital Thimphu, the students from different schools offered prayers and butter lamps and prayed for the long life of His Majesty the fourth Druk Gylapo.
BBS spent the day at the Jigme Namgyel Lower secondary School in Motithang. It began with the hoisting of the national flag and singing of the national anthem.
The students also performed various cultural programmes to mark the day. Similar programmes were also organized in differnt schools.
Celebrations are also taking place at Bhutan’s embassies and missions aboard. Many say it is a day to reflect on the progress Bhutan has achieved and to offer prayers for the Long Life and Well-Being of His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo.
