The damage to the undersea broadband cables has disrupted businesses in many countries including neighbouring India which has an 11 billon dollar outsourcing industry. In Bhutan the damage has been minimal. It has mainly affected businesses which depend on Internet like internet cafes and call centers.
It has been also a slow week for internet cafes in the capital. The cafes were packed with students checking their class 10 examination results. They said it is taking hours to download their results.
The Production Manager of the Bhutan Business Solution said for the last three days, the slow connection has hampered uploading and downloading of voice and document files. The company is using lease line though satellites as the broadband is still down.
Other businesses which depend on internet connection have also been affected. The Commercial Manager of Druk Air said the slow internet service has affected the launch of their online reservation.
He said it takes almost one hour to download one e-ticket from the net.
