The Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Ltd. (RICBL) is launching new insurance schemes to mark the Coronation and Centenary celebrations. It hopes to launch around five new schemes this year. Some of the schemes were presented to the stakeholders yesterday for discussions.
Over seas travel insurance, Trekking and Expedition insurance, Health insurance and insurance for industries and manufacturing units are some of the new insurance schemes that the RICBL is working on.
The Managing Director of RICBL, Namgay Lhendrup said the new insurance packages are being introduced to keep up with the changing time and need of the society.
While most of the participants welcomed the overseas travel insurance and the trekking and expedition insurance, many of the participants are skeptical about the health insurance.
Speaking to BBS some of the participants said the health insurance scheme will not be able to attract many people since health care is free in the kingdom and there are no private hospitals in the country.
“Problems are expected at the initial stage but in the long run the health insurance will be successful since the sustainability of free health care services will be an issue in the future,” said Namgay Lhendrup.
