No tobacco country

Destroying seized tobacco productsPolice and court officials in the capital destroyed seized tobacco products yesterday.

The products worth about 75,000 Ngultrums were seized by Police at Chuzom check post on the 11th of this month from a DCM truck. The vehicle was on its way to Thimphu from Phuentsholing.

The seized products include 5 sacks of chewing tobacco and three cartoons of cigarettes and other tobacco products.

The case has been forwarded to the court. Court officials said the verdict will be passed within two weeks.

Along with tobacco products court officials also destroyed seized illegal drugs. The drugs were seized by the police over the past five months.

Court officials said cases relating to drugs and tobacco products smuggling are increasing every year. The sale of tobacco products in the country was banned in December 2004. Source: BBS
