The election of 20 people’s representatives to the National Council concluded yesterday with the five remaining dzongkhags of Thimphu, Haa, Tashiyangtse, Lhuentse and Gasa electing their representatives.
Gasa, Lhuentse and Haa held a “yes†and “no†vote with only a single candidate contesting the election. The National Council, which will act as a house of review will have 25 members, with the Druk Gyalpo appointing five eminent persons to the council. The Council, which will make Bhutan’s parliament together with the National Assembly, has representatives from diverse platforms. They include researchers, retired army officers, and fresh college graduates. There are four women representative in the house.
