The Prime Minister Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley in the Indian capital New Delhi

The Prime Minister Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley has arrived in the Indian capital New Delhi. He is there to attend the 2nd Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit.

Upon arrival at the Indira Gandhi international airport, the Prime Minister Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley and the Bhutanese delegation were received by the state minister for textile EVKS Elangovan, Indian officials, Bhutan’s Foreign Minister Lyonpo Ugyen Tshering, Bhutan’s ambassador to India Lyonpo Dago Tshering and Bhutanese embassy officials.

At the Paro International Airport, Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley was seen off by cabinet ministers, senior government officials, armed force personnel and the Bangladeshi ambassador to Bhutan AKM Atiquer Rehman yesterday afternoon, November 12.

The daylong BIMSTEC summit will be held today, November 13. It will be attended by leaders from Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Our reporter Pema Namgay who is accompanying the Bhutanese delegation said trade, counter-terrorism, trans-national crimes, tourism and public health are some of the issues that will be discussed during the one day summit. The leaders are also expected to review the progress on the proposed Free Trade Agreement between the BIMSTEC members.

The Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is hosting a dinner for the BIMSTEC leaders.

They are also scheduled to call on the President of India. On the sidelines of the summit, Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley will be meeting the Prime Ministers of India and Nepal.
