Tshering Dorji National Council from Ha

About 89 percent of the voters approved the lone Ha National Council candidate, Tshering Dorji by pressing the “yes” button to represent them in the National Council.

Out of 2,533 votes cast yesterday, 2,242 pressed the “yes” button. 291 still chose not to have a candidate from Ha by pressing the “no” button. Tshering Dorji, from Bji gewog was a former lecturer at the Sherubtse College in Kanglung. Ha dzongkhag had two candidates but Khandu Wangchuk, the candidate from Gakiling gewog was disqualified by the election commission’s qualification criteria.

Speaking to Kuensel, Tshering Dorji, 33, said that he was overwhelmed by the voter turn out. “I didn’t expect these many people to come out and vote,” he said. His 93-year-old grandmother was happier. “I am proud. Before I knew what was happening, my grandson is elected as a people’s representative,” she said.
