Bhutan and Bangladesh signed the renewed bilateral trade agreement this afternoon in the capital. The new agreement will further enhance trade relations between the two countries.
The renewed bilateral trade agreement was signed by the Economic Affairs Minister, Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk, and the Bangladeshi Commerce Minister, Mohammed Faruk Khan, in the presence of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, and Prime Minister, Lyonchhen Jigmi. Y Thinley.
At the signing ceremony, the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, said the new trade agreement will significantly increase economic activities between Bhutan and Bangladesh.
“Success in all these areas and the trade agreement is an initiative that will surely result in the harmonious growth of our countries. This will significantly increase the economic activities in Bangladesh and Bhutan,†said Sheikh Hasina.
With the signing of the renewed trade agreement, a new trade route has been opened for eastern Bhutan.
The number of trade commodities has been increased to 90. The Economic Affairs Minister, Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk, said Bangladesh has also agreed to provide duty free access to 18 commodities from Bhutan.
He said the trade agreement will benefit our farmers and help enhance their income.
Bhutan and Bangladesh signed the bilateral trade agreement in 1980. The agreement was first renewed in May, 2003.
