His Majesty the King has accepted former Chief Justice Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye as the Chief Justice of the first Supreme Court.

Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye was recommended by a six-member commission formed in November under a royal command to recommend one person to assume the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The new Chief Justice shall chair the National Judicial Commission and work to establish the first Supreme Court of Bhutan.
