His Majesty the King granted an audience to Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh His Majesty the King granted an audience to Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh this morning.

The Prime Minster of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina was escorted in traditional Chipdrel Ceremony to the Tashichhodzong.

At the courtyard of the Tashichhodzong the Royal Body Guards and the Royal Bhutan Army presented a Guard of Honour to the Prime Minister.

She was then ushered into the throne room where His Majesty the King granted her audience. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on a three-day State visit on the invitation of her counterpart Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley.

Bhutan is the first country in the South-Asia she is visiting after she was elected as Prime Minister in January this year. It is her first visit to the Kingdom.

Later in the afternoon, His Majesty the King hosted a lunch for Prime Minister Hasina at the Dechenchholing Palace. Their Royal Highnesses the Princes and Princesses were also present.

Also this morning, His Majesty the King granted an audience to the Queen of Belgium. Her Majesty is the Queen consort of His Majesty King Albert II of Belgium.

Her Majesty arrived in the Kingdom on October 30. While in the Kingdom, Her Majesty met with senior government officials and visited places of historical and cultural interest. Her Majesty will leave the Kingdom on Monday.

Bhutan and Belgium started diplomatic relations this year.
