Punakha Ugyen academy defeated Sherbuling higher secondary school (HSS) of Trongsa in two straight games to win the national level traditional archery for higher secondary schools on Christmas day at Samtengang, Wangdue.
Kinley Tobgay of Ugyen academy was declared man of the match and the best archer prize went to Nangkhor’s Sampa Tshewang, who hit four kareys in 52 rounds. Drugyel’s Tshering Dorji had the highest hits in one match, three kareys in 13 rounds. A total of seven teams from across the country, winners of the regional tournaments, competed for four days on a league cum knockout basis to get to the finals.
On the third day of the knockout round, the three top teams Nangkhor HSS, Pemagatshel HSS and Gyelposhing HSS, Mongar, were surprised by Ugyen academy and Sherubling HSS, although the first two scored higher points during the league round.
The tournament was organised by the games and sports division, department of youth and sports as a follow-up to the dzongkhag and regional level traditional archery tournament.
