The Druk-Punjab National Bank in Bhutan

The Druk-Punjab National Bank is making steady progress and will definitely start its operation this year, according to the bank’s domestic promoters.

It will initially set up in Thimphu and Phuentsholing and later in the other dzongkhags, said a major promoter on condition of anonymity. He said that the Punjab National Bank (PNB) was chosen as a partner because it is the largest nationalised bank in India with 4,800 branches.

PNB, he added, has 114 years of experience in banking with strong relations with 217 other banks around the world. More than 50 renowned international banks maintain their rupee funds with the bank, he said.

“We’ll be floating 30 percent of the bank’s shares to the public so that it gives people an opportunity to have a stake in the bank,” said the promoter.

PNB uses advanced core-banking software and technology and, likewise, Druk-PNB will introduce advanced techno savvy products in Bhutan, the promoter said.

Once local staff is employed, the bank will train them in institutions owned by PNB and also provide on-the-job training. The Bank of Bhutan and Bhutan National Bank have enjoyed monopoly for a long time, the promoter said, but Druk-PNB would provide better services and financial products.

The promoters said that the process of superior banking technology and consequent quality services would be affected if there were restrictions placed on the movement of banking personnel. “So far, many people have shown their interest in working with Druk-PNB.”

Dear sir,
We are happy that finally bank is in track after much waited so congratulation to the staff and to dpnb. Country having only two banks to choice they have played a real monopoly interms of anything. We would like to urge the dpnb to compete against them and especially regarding the interest, formalities, new schems which we can spent in business which inturn can change living style. And when your share will be floated to the public with what rate. So i will expect the best from you all which you can really compete with existing banks and we do have full confidence, trust and faith that dpnb will reallly make a differecne to the people bhutan. So good luck and many prayers for your succes here after.

With regards

Thanking you

The expections of the Bhutanes people will be high from Druk-PNB Bank. The general public has had enough of the monotony of having to contend with the stereo-type services. We now hope that there will be better products to suit every one’s needs.

Thanks.

to whom it may concern
this is to let you know that i am an account holder in your reputed bank.but i am very sorry to write this complaint regarding the ATM in Gangtok,Sikkim.Almost all the time the ATM is either out of order or unable to dispense cash. This is really frustrating as there is just one ATM in the whole of Gangtok. Therefore if you could kindly look into this matter and let the problem be solved it would be a real relief.
yours sincerely

i ahd been alloted a share of Nu. 34 only at times of floating shares to public, however, it is highly regretted that the dividend or whatsoever information is not been received by us. The bank managemet need to looked into the matter for public better awareness.
