The Parliament concluded with His Majesty the King’s presence

His Majesty the KingThe second session of the Parliament concluded today amidst traditional ceremony. The closing ceremony assumed special significance as His Majesty the King graced the ceremony. In keeping with the tradition, the members offered Tashi Moenlam to His Majesty the King.

Her Royal Highness Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck, senior government officials, Dzongdas, the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan and representatives from international agencies also attended the ceremony.

The Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley said His Majesty’s presence in the Parliament is a reminder for them of their important roles and responsibilities.

He said besides other issues, the house discussed three important laws and the 10th five year plan. Compared to the previous five year plans, the Prime Minister said the 10th five year plan is unique. He said the 10th plan is the first five year plan after His Majesty ascended the Golden Throne.

Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley said it is also the first plan of the democratically elected government. The Prime Minister thanked the Government of India for their continued support in the 10th plan. The Prime Minister attributed the success of the second parliament to His Majesty’s wise advice and the hard work of the parliamentarians.

The Chairperson of the National Council Namgay Penjore said under the wisdom and guidance of His Majesty the King; the second session of the National Council has been successful.

The Chairperson of the National Council also expressed his appreciation to the government for taking up the responsibilities efficiently.

Making the closing remarks, the National Assembly Speaker Jigme Tshultim said the second session of the Parliament has been fruitful. He said the second session of the Parliament discussed and resolved several issues of national importance.

Tshogpoen Jigme Tshultim said if government can achieve the visions of the 10th plan, it will help improve the wellbeing of the people and solve the unemployment problem. Recognizing the important responsibilities of the civil servants he said, government has revised their salary despite financial problem.

Members of the Parliament then offered Tashi Moenlam prayers inside the National Assembly Hall.

Following the Tashi Moenlam the Venerable Tshula Lopen of the central monastic body offered Tashi Moenlam Khadhar to His Majesty the King. Source: BBS
