For 13 years the motorists plying on the road have been paying the same penalties. Not anymore. The Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) have come up with new penalties for violating traffic rules.
From May 1 this year motorists violating traffic rules will have to pay Nu. 500 more than what they used to pay earlier.
For a driver who doesn’t have a driving license had to pay a penalty of Nu. 1,250 earlier. But now the defaulter will have to pay Nu. 1750.
Some of the motorists welcomed the new rule while others said it is not fair.
According to the RSTA the reason for revising the existing penalties is to regulate the traffic flow and improve the road safety in the country.
It is also to make the motorists feel the pinch of the penalty before they violate any traffic rules. Source: BBS
