Essence of Bhutan

Day 1: Arrival Paro International Airport.

During the journey to Paro, one will experience the breath taking view of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other popular Himalayan peaks, including the sacred Jhomolhari and Mount Jitchu Drake in Bhutan but you have to be seated on the left hand side of the aircraft. On the arrival at Paro International Airport, The representative of Bhutan Majestic Travel, your tour guide will receive you and escort you to the local restaurant to briefly discuss the day’s program and followed by lunch. After lunch rive to the Paro National Museum (Ta-Dzong). This was actually the Watch Tower of Paro Rinpung Dzong (Fortress). It was converted to the National Museum in 1968. Visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong. This massive fortress is located on a hilltop above the Pachu (Paro River) of Paro Valley. You have to walk about 15 minutes by crossing an ancient wooden bridge built in typical Bhutanese architect. The Dzong houses the District Administration Office headed by the District Governor or Dasho Dzongdag and the District Monk Body headed by The District Abbot or Lam Naten.  It was built in 1646 A.D. Day 2: Taktsang Hike

After breakfast drive to the base of Famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang) which will take maximum of Thirty Minutes and then hike to the monastery. The round trip will take Five Hours. After an hour you will reach the Monastery’s Tea House/ Cafeteria where you will be served tea/coffee for refreshments. Then we will hike up for another One Hour where you get the best close up picture point of the monastery. Guru Rimpoche or Second Buddha visited Bhutan in the 8th Century couple of times both from Nepal, India and Tibet and one time he stayed in far Eastern Bhutan in a place called Singye Dzong and meditated, people from Paro valley went there to welcome Guru firstly to flourish Buddhism and secondly to subdue the demons, obstacles and evil spirits. Gurus was flying on a Flaming Tigress from eastern Bhutan and choose to live and meditate in Taktsang for Three months, from that on people are Paro enjoyed happiness, good harvest away from all evil harms. Later in the 17th century there were many other renowned Buddhist Scholars both from Tibet and Bhutan meditated and enlarged the monastery.

Walk down to Tea House for Vegetarian Lunch. After Lunch further walks down till the road and Drive to Kyichu Lhakhang (Lhakhang means Monastery). King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet built Kyichu Lhakhang in 659 A.D. It is considered one of the holiest places in Bhutan as it marks the advent of Buddhism in the country. It is one of the 108 such temples built by him for spreading Buddhism in this region.  Overnight: Hotel in Paro.

Day – 3 Paro – Thimphu:

After breakfast drive to Thimphu, Capital city of Bhutan with population of 80,000 people and Capital without any Traffic Lights. The drive will take 2 hours 65kms. After lunch visit the Memorial Stupa built in 1974 by Her Majesty the Royal Queen Mother and dedicated to His Late Majesty the Third King of Bhutan or the Father of Modern Bhutan, who reigned the Kingdom from 1952-1972. Visit Thimphu Dzong, The Throne Room of His Majesty the Fourth King of Bhutan and also the summer capital and residence of Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot) Buddhist Head who shares same power to King. After breakfast visit The Painting school where traditional art is still kept alive through instruction in the art of painting Thankas (Sacred Buddhist scroll). The Handicrafts Emporium where Bhutanese textiles and other arts are displayed and can be purchased. Visit the Thimphu’s Mini Zoo where you can see the TAKIN, the National Animal of Bhutan, which has head of a Goat and Body of a Cow and as per the legend it is been created by a Saint from Tibet who visited Bhutan and popularly known as Lama Drukpa Kuenley or Devine Madman. Drive to BBS Radio Tower (Bhutan Broadcasting Service) to get the magnificent view of Thimphu and also known as Lovers’ point. Lunch will be served in Down Town.
